Medway Court

A site-specific audio-visual installation, collaboratively produced with residents of Medway Court for Camden50.

This piece is inspired by the soundscape and architecture of the vicinity: the railway hubs of St Pancras, Kings Cross and Euston, the sounds of daily life for residents in the neighbourhood (refuse collection, birds) and the regular appearance of wheeled trolley-suitcases from passing visitors. The rhythm of the sound composition connects with the repetitive geometric patterns of the wall - inspired by a similar design which was an original feature of the Medway Court building from the 1950s, by architect Denis Clarke Hall. The Tenants and Residents meeting hall was already full of archive research on the history of the building when we arrived to begin working together - fantastic!
