Old Ford

For this piece of work, Walls On Walls took the creative engagement lead in a collaboration with the ‘Building Well Communities’ research project.

The project explored how health and care services can better work with local community resources - like parks, arts activities, and support groups - to improve health and reduce inequalities.

Participants joined creative walks led by Walls On Walls artists, to explore the area of Old Ford (Tower Hamlets, London). Together, they recorded their insights through sound, photos, videos, sketches and words – all guided by questions of health, wellbeing, and the environment.

The collected materials formed an installation, comprising the short film (above), field recordings, photo postcards, and a handmade book.

The Walls On Walls team: George Ellis (filmmaker); Toby O’Conner (film and audio producer); Tullis Rennie (composer and field recordist); Emma Tubbs (architect).

The work was supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the research project was led by Professor Angela Harden (City St George's, University of London).
